Countryside Pursuits

Having been born and raised in the Devonshire countryside, on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, Paul possesses a deep-rooted connection to rural life and a profound respect for the individuals and families who have managed and cared for the land—often over successive generations. This connection is further reinforced by his ancestral ties to Devon, with branches of his family lineage traceable in the region since the 13th century, spanning more than 800 years.

Paul maintains an active interest in all aspects of country life and is a proud member of several prominent organisations, including the Countryside Alliance, the Landowners Association, and the British Horse Society.

Agriculture forms the backbone of rural communities, and Paul is a strong advocate for supporting farmers, landowners, and rural professionals whose work sustains the countryside. This belief underpins his enthusiastic support for key agricultural and equestrian events, such as the Devon County Show and the Royal Windsor Horse Show—fixtures that are highlights of his annual social calendar.

He is honoured to serve as a Vice-President of both the Devon County Show and the Devon Agricultural Association, through which he actively promotes and supports rural life, farming innovation, and community engagement.

Paul’s hobbies and social pursuits are closely intertwined with the countryside and rural traditions. His interests include stalking, shooting, show jumping, and polo, and he continues his involvement in equestrianism through membership in respected organisations such as the British Horse Society.
