Each year Mr Borrow-Longain selects a charity to raise donations to on the occasion of his
birthday personally. This has been a ritual that’s extremely close to his heart for many years.

Birthdays mark a milestone in life, ideally shared with friends and loved ones, and not about the
volume of gifts received.

In honour of Mr Borrow-Longain’s dear friend Dr Craig Paterson OStJ, this year he has selected
the St John Eye Hospital in the Holy Land.

The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital transforms people’s lives by saving sight in the world’s
most unique region facing decades of conflict resulting in the poorest people lacking the
fundamental privileges of ordinary life.

As the only charitable provider of expert eye care in the Middle East and has clinics in the West
Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem treating patients regardless of ethnicity, religion or the ability to pay.
Their main hospital is in East Jerusalem, operating for over 140 years. As it is the only charitable
provider of eye care, the importance of the hospital for the region cannot be overstated.
The St John Eye Hospital has a large outpatient department, specialist eye units, operating
theatres and 24-hour eye emergency services.

Their facilities are internationally recognised, and recently became the first Palestinian hospital to
be awarded the three-year Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. JCI is a US-based
organisation that has established patient safety and quality service standards for health facilities
worldwide.
